Cuttack’s historic SCB Medical College and Hospital is set for a dramatic transformation. The Odisha government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has greenlit a ₹4,474.49 crore redevelopment plan to elevate the institution to AIIMS++ level standards by June 2026.
Once upgraded, SCB MCH will house 3,796 beds and become a regional hub for advanced healthcare and medical education. The facelift includes cutting-edge diagnostic centres, state-of-the-art surgical units, and enhanced academic infrastructure.
The announcement came during the CM’s review of the ongoing redevelopment, part of a broader effort to modernise the state’s healthcare landscape.
Statewide Hospital Upgrades at ₹9,200 Cr
The CM also outlined a sweeping statewide medical overhaul, which includes expansion plans for four key government hospitals:

VIMSAR, Burla: ₹1,594 crore to raise beds from 1,485 to 2,861

MKCG, Berhampur: ₹1,014.13 crore to increase capacity from 1,583 to 2,033 beds

Rourkela Government Hospital: ₹627.16 crore for expansion from 437 to 763 beds

Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar: ₹5,958 crore to boost from 750 to 2,582 beds
Additionally, Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute in Cuttack will also grow, with 1,127 beds planned under an ₹895.89 crore redevelopment.
