A 22-year-old engineering student Tapan Acharya was found dead on railway tracks near Lingaraj Station in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. His family alleges that mental pressure from his college played a significant role in his tragic death.
Tapan, a resident of Botanda Mahaveer Nagar, was studying at a private engineering college in the city. His father, Ajay Acharya, said the college confiscated his son’s mobile phone earlier that day, which left him unable to communicate with his family.
“They seized his phone around 11 am. He couldn’t answer our calls. Later, the college told us to come on May 1. We believe our son was mentally harassed by the authorities,” said Ajay.
The family traced Tapan’s location using a GPS tracker on his electric scooter, eventually finding his body near the railway tracks.
The Odisha Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death. So far, the college has not responded publicly to the serious allegations made by the family.
