In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy ambitions, the Energy Department of Odisha and the New and Renewable Energy Department of Madhya Pradesh (MPNRED) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on Friday.
The agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition, which concluded successfully in the national capital.
The MoU creates a robust framework for collaboration covering technology transfer, joint research and development, policy exchange, and knowledge sharing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation. Both states will work together to accelerate the deployment of solar, wind, and hybrid power projects while jointly exploring advanced solutions in energy storage and green hydrogen.
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo described the partnership as “a monumental milestone in strengthening regional cooperation for clean energy transition.” He added, “By uniting the strategic vision and resources of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, we are setting a strong benchmark for sustainable development, innovation, and resilient energy infrastructure that will accelerate India’s green growth trajectory.”
The collaboration leverages complementary strengths: Odisha’s rapidly expanding industrial base and Madhya Pradesh’s established large-scale clean energy infrastructure. Officials from both states expect the partnership to reduce the cost of clean technology deployment, improve grid reliability, and support sustainable economic growth across the region.
Key focus areas include technical exchanges on policy design, regulatory frameworks, and grid integration strategies, alongside collaborative R&D initiatives. The move is expected to help both states meet rising power demand while contributing meaningfully to India’s national clean energy targets.
The signing marks one of the strongest inter-state partnerships in the renewable energy sector in recent years and signals a growing trend of cooperative federalism in India’s energy transition.
