The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has submitted its response to the Odisha government regarding the floodlight failure incident during the second India-England ODI at Barabati Stadium.
OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, who recently assumed office, stated that as a preventive measure, the association will ensure that two generators are available for each floodlight stand to avoid such mishaps in future matches.
The Sports and Youth Services Department had issued a show-cause notice to OCA, demanding an explanation for the incident within ten days. The floodlight failure halted play after six overs in the second innings when India was chasing a target of 305 runs.
Mohanty emphasized plans for a comprehensive makeover of the Barabati Stadium and expressed optimism about the new government’s cooperation in the stadium’s development. He mentioned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is ready to support these efforts.
The response comes amid criticisms and aims to ensure such disruptions do not mar future cricketing events at the historic stadium. Mohanty, who previously served as OCA president from 2019 to 2022, reiterated his commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and facilities at Barabati Stadium.
