The Election Commission has officially issued a notification for the by-election in the 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency in Odisha, setting the stage for a crucial vote in the region.

The ECI Notification has been published in the Extraordinary Issue of
Odisha Gazette for general information.

This by-election comes amid ongoing political developments in the state, with preparations now underway for nominations, scrutiny, and polling.

The schedule outlines a streamlined process to ensure a smooth electoral exercise. Candidates interested in contesting must file their nominations by October 20, 2025, the final date for submissions. Following this, the scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22, 2025, allowing for any discrepancies to be addressed promptly.

The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is set for October 24, 2025, after which the final list of contestants will be confirmed. Polling is scheduled for November 11, 2025, with the entire election process expected to conclude by November 16, 2025.

To accommodate varying security concerns, voting timings have been tailored accordingly. In Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected booths, polling will occur from 7 AM to 4 PM, while all other booths will operate from 7 AM to 5 PM. This measure aims to prioritize voter safety and maximize participation in potentially vulnerable areas.

Nuapada, a constituency known for its rural demographics and agricultural focus, has historically seen competitive races between major parties like the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. The by-election is anticipated to draw significant attention, as it could influence the balance of power in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Voters are encouraged to check their eligibility and prepare for the poll, with the Election Commission emphasizing transparency and adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.

Further updates on candidate filings and campaign activities are expected in the coming days.
