Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida strongly refuted viral social media claims alleging the arrest of Germany-based YouTuber and social media personality Dhruv Rathee, terming the reports completely false, misleading, and baseless.
The clarification came after multiple social media handles began circulating unverified posts and clips on X (formerly Twitter) alleging that Rathee had been taken into custody by Noida Police.
Official Police Clarification and Warning
In an official fact-check statement, the Police Commissionerate Gautam Buddh Nagar dismissed the rumors outright, asserting:
”Dhruv Rathee has not been arrested by Noida Police.”
Urging citizens to exercise caution, authorities warned against spreading unverified information that could disrupt public order. The police department noted that strict legal action under prevailing legal provisions would be initiated against individuals or accounts intentionally pushing false narratives and rumor-mongering content.
”The general public is appealed not to disseminate such misleading and unverified messages, and to always verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it,” the police handle posted.
Context of Previous Detentions
The recent wave of speculation follows online chatter connected to a brief preventive detention incident earlier in the month. Rathee was previously detained from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56 under Section 172(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) ahead of proposed demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. He was subsequently released following discussions with law enforcement agencies.
Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor digital platforms closely to curb the spread of manipulated or entirely fabricated reports regarding high-profile figures.
