Thousands of people took to the streets across the United States and several European countries as part of the widespread “No Kings” protests targeting policies of US President Donald Trump.

The demonstrations, held on March 28, drew large crowds voicing concerns over immigration policies, civil rights issues, and the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Protesters also highlighted fears of rising global instability linked to the war involving Iran.

Massive Turnout Across Cities

Organisers estimated that millions participated in the protests, continuing a series of rallies that have grown in scale over recent months. Cities like San Diego, New York, and Washington witnessed large gatherings, with demonstrators marching through iconic locations such as the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall.

In Los Angeles, authorities used crowd-control measures, including tear gas, after some protesters refused to disperse. Meanwhile, peaceful demonstrations featuring music and cultural performances were reported in several areas.

Minnesota Emerges as Protest Epicentre

The state of Minnesota became a focal point of the movement, with thousands gathering at the Capitol in St. Paul. Protesters expressed strong opposition to intensified immigration enforcement actions carried out by agencies such as US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The rallies highlighted growing concerns over civil liberties and enforcement practices, with participants calling for more inclusive and humane policies.

Bruce Springsteen’s Performance Draws Attention

Renowned musician Bruce Springsteen made a notable appearance at the Minnesota rally, energising the crowd with a performance tied to recent events involving federal enforcement actions.

His participation added cultural visibility to the protests, reinforcing the broader message of resistance and civic engagement.

Protests Spread Across Europe

The “No Kings” movement extended beyond the US, with demonstrations reported in cities like Rome, London, and Paris. Protesters in these locations voiced solidarity while also addressing local political concerns.

In Rome, demonstrators directed criticism at Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, while rallies in London and Paris focused on broader themes such as anti-racism and opposition to far-right politics.

White House Responds to Demonstrations

The White House dismissed the protests, with officials characterising them as politically motivated and lacking widespread support. Statements from administration representatives criticised the movement and questioned its credibility.

Global Context: War and Economic Concerns

The protests come amid heightened global tensions linked to the West Asia conflict, which has disrupted energy markets and raised concerns about inflation and economic slowdown worldwide. Demonstrators expressed fears that prolonged instability could impact livelihoods and global growth.
