Odisha’s engineer-in-chief of the Water Resources department Chandra Sekhar Padhi confirmed that there is currently no flood situation in any major river across the state.
Rivers such as the Budhabalanga and Baitarani remain below danger levels, while only the Jalaka river is flowing above the warning mark—but its level is gradually receding.
Officials anticipate further improvement in conditions over the next seven days due to the absence of significant rainfall. The Hirakud reservoir, a key flood control point, recorded a water level of 626.35 feet as of 9 AM today.
In response to the changing inflow dynamics, four gates of the Hirakud dam have been closed, while 20 gates remain open to facilitate controlled water discharge. The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of 3.85 lakh cusecs and discharging 4.24 lakh cusecs.
Authorities also noted that by 6 PM tomorrow, Mundali barrage is expected to witness a water flow of approximately 5.50 lakh cusecs. The situation is being closely monitored, and no immediate flood threat is projected.
