Nidhi Tewari, a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Her appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Tewari, a native of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has an impressive career trajectory and has been serving in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) since November 2022.
She first joined the PMO as Under Secretary and later served as Deputy Secretary. Before her stint in the PMO, she played a pivotal role in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), specializing in disarmament and international security affairs.
Tewari, who secured the 96th rank in the Civil Services Examination (2013), brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has clarified that her appointment is on a co-terminus basis or until further orders. This move highlights the continued emphasis on reinforcing administrative efficiency at the highest levels of government.
