A newborn girl died at Palsada Primary Health Centre under Lakhanpur block in Jharsuguda district after allegedly falling to the ground due to suspected negligence by hospital staff.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a pregnant woman from Machida village was admitted for delivery.
Relatives claimed that soon after childbirth, on‑duty healthcare staff mishandled the situation, leading to the baby slipping and falling. The infant reportedly died immediately, sparking tension at the health centre. Family members demanded strict action against those responsible.
Rengali police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation. Sources said some healthcare personnel were detained for questioning as part of the probe. Officials confirmed that the body would undergo a post‑mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
