A newborn baby died at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Sambalpur, with the family alleging medical negligence.
The infant, son of Mahesh and Susmita Bagarti from Sakhipada, was born on April 1. His condition deteriorated late at night, around 1 am, but the family claimed no doctor attended to him for nearly nine hours.
Relatives said they repeatedly requested medical assistance as the baby’s health worsened. They alleged that hospital staff ignored their pleas, leading to a delay in treatment. The infant eventually died, and the family insisted that timely intervention could have saved his life.
The incident sparked outrage among relatives and locals, who demanded accountability from hospital authorities. The family accused doctors of failing in their duty to provide immediate care to a critically ill newborn.
Hospital officials have not yet issued a statement regarding the allegations. Police and district health authorities are expected to review the case and determine whether negligence occurred.
