The Commissionerate police on Tuesday arrested a 3rd-year B.Tech student in connection with the suicide of a Nepali girl at KIIT University.
The accused has been identified as Advik Srivastava, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University.
The girl student named Prakriti Lamsal studying in her 3rd year of Computer Science, committed suicide on 16th February 2025.
Her cousin, Siddhant Sigdel, filed a complaint alleging that harassment by Advik Srivastava, led to her suicide.
A case was registered against Advik Srivastava for alleged abetment of suicide. Srivastava was arrested and taken into judicial custody on 17th February 2025. The investigation is ongoing, including the seizure of relevant documents and electronic gadgets.
On the morning of 17th February, KIIT University declared “sine die” (a temporary closure) and asked Nepali students to vacate the hostels due to their gathering and agitation.
Later, on the evening of 17th February, the sine-die order was withdrawn, and Nepali students were asked to return to their hostels.
A separate case was registered against KIIT University security personnel for alleged manhandling of students. Two security guards, Ramakanta Nayak and Jogendra Behera, were arrested.
Both criminal cases are under investigation. The police have ensured an objective, impartial, and just investigation. The sine-die order has been withdrawn.

This incident has caused concern and unrest within the university community.
