The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) 2026 is being conducted across India on Sunday, with more than 22 lakh candidates appearing for one of the country’s most competitive entrance examinations.
Organised by the National Testing Agency, the exam is being held in pen-and-paper mode from 2 PM. Entry to examination centres began at 11 AM, with gates officially opening at 11:30 AM. Candidates were required to enter before 1 PM, as no entry is allowed after 1:30 PM.
Strong Participation in Odisha
In Odisha, over 55,000 students are appearing for the exam across 27 cities, reflecting the growing competition for medical seats. Authorities have made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct, including crowd control, security deployment, and logistical support.
Strict Guidelines for Candidates
The NTA has issued detailed guidelines to maintain fairness and discipline during the examination. Candidates were instructed to follow a prescribed dress code, including wearing light clothes with half sleeves. Full-sleeve outfits are not permitted, and students were advised to wear slippers instead of shoes.
Additionally, electronic devices, bags, and other prohibited items are strictly banned inside examination halls. Personal water bottles are also not allowed, as drinking water is being provided at all centres.
A Crucial Gateway for Medical Aspirants
NEET-UG continues to be a critical gateway for students seeking admission into undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, and other allied programmes in India and select international institutions.
Given its scale—conducted in 556 cities including some overseas centres—the examination remains a defining step in the academic journey of aspiring doctors.
