India’s javelin stars Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh have all qualified for the men’s javelin final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, keeping alive the nation’s medal hopes in athletics.
Neeraj, the reigning world champion, secured qualification with a best throw of 79.61m on his second attempt, finishing fifth among 18 participants. He opened with 76.28m before opting out of his third throw, confident of his place in the final.
Rohit Yadav impressed with a 78.37m throw, finishing ninth, while Yash Vir Singh clinched the tenth spot with 78.36m after improving steadily across his three attempts.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage continued his rich form, topping the qualifiers with 82.84m in his first throw. Pathirage, who recently hurled 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League, showcased his dominance by skipping his remaining attempts.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, managed a best of 78.63m but faltered in subsequent throws, finishing seventh overall.
The final, scheduled for Friday, promises a thrilling contest with three Indians in the fray, alongside Asia’s rising star Pathirage and Olympic champion Nadeem.
