In a significant development highlighting accountability within the Odisha Police, a woman from Jamusahi village under Sarankul Police Station in Nayagarh district has lodged a serious complaint against Inspector Sujit Kumar Das.
The officer stands accused of making unwelcome love proposals to her, turning what should have been a protective institution into a source of distress for the victim and her family.
According to details shared in the complaint, the woman’s family had been residing in a single-room arrangement outside the village after being ostracised.
Seeking justice after alleged harassment, she personally met the Nayagarh Superintendent of Police on Wednesday with concrete evidence, including proof of the inspector’s advances.
The police department responded promptly and decisively. A case has been registered against Inspector Das under the relevant sections of law. The investigation has been entrusted to the specialised Crime Against Women and Children (CAW & CW) wing to ensure a fair, impartial, and thorough probe.
In a move aimed at maintaining transparency and preventing any influence over the investigation, the State Police Headquarters has ordered the immediate transfer of Inspector Das from Sarankul Police Station to the district headquarters.
