The Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Special POCSO Court in Nabarangpur has sentenced accused Dushmant Bag alias Durlabh Baba to 18 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000 for abducting and repeatedly raping a minor girl in Chandahandi area.
The court ruled that in default of payment, the convict will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment. The case dates back to June 18, 2013, when the accused abducted a minor girl and confined her at his residence for nearly 20 days, subjecting her to repeated sexual assault under threats.
Following a written complaint lodged by the victim’s family at Chandahandi police station, case no. 79/13 was registered. After investigation, police filed a charge sheet, and the matter was tried under TR case no. 3/2020. The court examined 17 witnesses and available evidence before delivering the verdict.
Judge Basudeb Acharya also directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 7 lakh compensation to the survivor for her rehabilitation and future welfare. The case was prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor Mrutyunjaya Maharana.
