In a recent development from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been penalised for breaching the tournament’s Code of Conduct during Match 63 against Mumbai Indians.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the Capitals faced off against the home team in a high-stakes encounter.

The IPL governing body issued a statement on May 22, 2025, confirming that Mukesh Kumar was fined 10 per cent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for violating Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.” While the specific details of the incident were not disclosed in the advisory, such breaches typically involve actions like throwing equipment, damaging fixtures, or displaying unsportsmanlike conduct toward the playing environment.

Mukesh Kumar, a key member of Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack, admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. According to IPL regulations, decisions regarding Level 1 breaches are final and binding, leaving no room for appeal. The imposition of a demerit point adds further scrutiny, as accumulating multiple demerit points within a specified period can lead to harsher penalties, including potential suspensions.

The breach occurred during a tightly contested match, with the Mumbai Indians leveraging their home advantage at Wankhede Stadium. While the advisory did not specify the context of Mukesh’s actions, it’s plausible that frustration from the game’s intensity may have contributed.
