The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Odisha received 4% above-normal cumulative rainfall this monsoon season till July 13, 2026, with sharp contrasts across districts.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the state recorded 348.2 mm of rainfall against a normal of 334.4 mm. While central and western districts such as Boudhagada (636.7 mm, +120%), Subarnapur (650.5 mm, +97%), and Kandhamala (527.5 mm, +63%) experienced large excess rainfall, several southern and northern regions remained deficient.
Districts including Nabarangpur (-42%), Kalahandi (-36%), Rayagada (-20%), Malkangiri (-23%), and Mayurbhanj (-22%) recorded below-normal precipitation. In contrast, coastal belts such as Cuttack (+29%), Kendrapada (+30%), and Jagatsinghpur (+23%) saw excess rainfall, indicating active monsoon conditions along the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists noted that the uneven distribution could impact crop planning and water management, urging farmers to stay alert for localised heavy showers in the coming weeks.
