Mitchell Starc received clearance from Cricket Australia to play in the Indian Premier League. The left-arm pacer is expected to feature for Delhi Capitals against Rajasthan Royals on May 1.
Starc had been sidelined since January due to elbow and shoulder issues. He managed his rehabilitation in India and gradually built up his workload. His absence sparked debate over overseas players’ commitment, but Starc clarified on social media that he was rehabbing injuries and dismissed “misinformed opinions.”
The 36-year-old played all five Ashes Tests earlier this year, earning Player of the Series honours. He also featured in five Big Bash League games for Sydney Sixers before stepping away to recover.
Starc’s return strengthens Delhi Capitals’ campaign. Last season, he led their pace attack with 14 wickets in 11 matches. DC currently sit fifth in the points table with three wins and three losses from six games. His availability adds depth to the bowling unit as the team pushes for playoff contention.
Australia captain Pat Cummins is also set to make his first IPL appearance of the season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Josh Hazlewood has already resumed playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru after missing the initial matches.
