An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a local youth in a village under the Golanthara police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The incident, which occurred just days after the previous assault, made headlines across the state, intensified community outrage and raised fresh questions about the safety of minors in the region.
According to police reports, the accused, hailing from the same locality, allegedly lured the minor girl out of her home and committed the act in a secluded area. The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint, following which the police acted swiftly to arrest the suspect.
Medical examinations of both the survivor and the accused have been completed, and legal proceedings are underway. The accused is slated to be produced in court today.
Local residents, along with child rights activists, have demanded stringent action and accelerated judicial processes in light of the recent surge in crimes against children. The Ganjam police have assured a thorough investigation, promising that a charge sheet will be filed swiftly to ensure justice.
With the wounds of the Gopalpur case still fresh, this second brutal incident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of child protection laws, community awareness, and proactive intervention by authorities.
