A minor girl reportedly consumed phenyl inside the premises of Gopalpur Police Station in Ganjam district on Monday, prompting swift medical intervention and legal action.
The girl was accompanied by a male friend, who has since been arrested following a complaint by the victim’s mother alleging kidnapping and sexual assault.
According to reports, the duo had visited Gopalpur sea beach earlier in the day and later sought a room on rent from a local resident. Upon being denied, they approached the police station to lodge a complaint. As the girl was a minor, police immediately contacted her family. Upon her father’s arrival, the girl allegedly panicked and consumed phenyl out of fear.
She was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and is currently under observation by a two-member medical team. Her condition is reported to be stable.
The youth was produced before a local court, and police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident. Authorities are investigating the sequence of events and assessing the psychological and social factors that may have contributed to the girl’s extreme reaction.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and mental well-being of minors, especially in situations involving alleged abuse and trauma. It also underscores the need for sensitive handling of such cases within law enforcement settings.
