A minor girl who was rescued from an earlier abduction has reportedly gone missing from a government-run Sakhi Centre in Jagatsinghpur, Odisha. Her father has filed a complaint with the district Superintendent of Police, alleging negligence and a second abduction.
The girl was originally abducted in March 2024 by a woman and her son. The family’s initial attempts to get help from the police were unsuccessful, prompting them to approach the Chief Minister’s Office. Following this, the girl was rescued, and the accused was arrested. She was then placed in the care of the government-supported Sakhi Centre.
According to her father, he was informed by center authorities that his daughter had been missing since June 21, 2024. He claims the center initially told him to take his daughter home after a brief stay, but when he arrived, they said she was gone. “My daughter is being kidnapped repeatedly,” he alleged in his complaint.
In-charge of the Sakhi Centre, Purnachandra Mall, stated that the girl went missing after she stepped outside the facility to use the restroom. He has denied any negligence on the part of the center and said that the local police were informed immediately after the incident. The disappearance of a minor from a state-supported facility has raised significant concerns about the safety and management of such centers. Police officials have not yet commented on the matter.
