Banki’s Khallipalli village under Baideswar police limits witnessed serial burglaries on Sunday night, triggering alarm across the community.
Miscreants looted over Rs 1 lakh in cash and several gold ornaments from three separate homes, all while the residents were fast asleep.
According to local sources, the burglars broke into the houses by forcefully opening locked doors and almirahs. A fourth home was also targeted, but the attempt was foiled when the culprits fled after encountering resistance.
The following morning, distraught homeowners discovered their ransacked living spaces and alerted both neighbours and police. The Baideswar police arrived at the scene shortly after and initiated a preliminary investigation, collecting eyewitness statements and surveying for any footprints or surveillance footage that might offer leads.
Residents expressed frustration over the apparent lack of preventive action, pointing out that similar incidents have occurred in neighboring villages recently without any major arrests. Many now fear a larger organized network may be operating unchecked in the region.
Calls for heightened night patrols and faster response times have intensified, as villagers remain on edge. Meanwhile, authorities have assured that all leads are being pursued and efforts are underway to determine if a gang is responsible for the string of thefts.
The chilling incident has sparked broader concerns about rural security infrastructure, especially in semi-urban pockets like Banki, where frequent crimes are testing the limits of law enforcement resources.
