Odisha continues to reel under an intense cold wave as minimum temperatures drop sharply across several regions.
Meteorologists confirm that the chill will persist until January 17, with relief expected only after western disturbances influence the weather from January 18.
Senior scientist Umashankar Das states that most areas in the state record temperatures below normal. Northern and interior Odisha experience the harshest conditions. The cold wave forces residents to rely on warm clothing and take precautions against the biting chill.
Twelve cities report minimum temperatures below 10°C. G. Udayagiri emerges as the coldest location with mercury plunging to 4.6°C. Rourkela and Phulbani register 7.1°C, marking the lowest in the plains. Dense fog blankets Rourkela and Bhawanipatna, disrupting traffic and affecting daily life.
Regional Meteorological Centre director Manorama Mohanty issues a yellow warning for the next three days. However, she clarifies that no cold wave warning will remain in effect between January 16 and 20.
The state has experienced dry weather for the past week, and forecasts suggest no major changes in the next five days. The unusual cold wave challenges residents, forcing them to adapt to difficult conditions. Authorities urge people to remain cautious and protect themselves from the extreme chill.
The cold wave in Odisha highlights the severity of winter this year. With temperatures dipping to record lows, the state braces for continued discomfort until conditions ease after January 17.
