The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, convicted Ajaya Kumar Mallick, Ex-Staffer of the Office of Revenue Inspector, Balandapada under Phiringia Tahasil, Kandhamal district.

Mallick faced charges under the Berhampur Vigilance PS case No.15 dated August 22, 2023, registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Investigators established that Mallick demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a farmer. The money was taken to facilitate mutation of ancestral land records and issuance of Patta (Record of Rights) in favour of the farmer and his legal heirs.

The court sentenced Mallick to rigorous imprisonment for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. Odisha Vigilance confirmed that it will move the competent authority to dismiss Mallick from service following his conviction.
