The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, convicted Satyaban Giri, former ASI of Police at Jharadihi Police Out-post under Tiringi Police Station, Mayurbhanj district, in a bribery case.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Giri in Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.04 dated 27.01.2021 under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 from a liquor vendor in exchange for allowing the vendor’s business to operate smoothly.
The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced it will move the competent authority to stop his pension benefits.
