Mayank Yadav, one of India’s fastest bowlers, marked his return to professional cricket in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) after an extended injury layoff.
Representing the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mayank played against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The 26-year-old pacer had been out of action since October 2024, after sustaining a foot injury during a T20I match against Bangladesh. Further delays followed when Mayank stubbed his toe while recuperating, forcing him to miss LSG’s earlier games in IPL 2025.
On April 27, LSG’s captain Rishabh Pant announced Mayank’s inclusion in the team’s playing XI, replacing Shardul Thakur. The Super Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first, aiming to capitalise on the day game’s conditions. Mayank’s return is expected to bolster LSG’s bowling lineup as they aim for a strong finish in the league.
In their previous match against the Delhi Capitals, Mayank was named in the squad but didn’t play due to tactical decisions following LSG’s batting collapse.
