Gujarat Titans have roped in former Australia opener Matthew Hayden as their batting coach ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The appointment was announced in an official release by the Ahmedabad-based franchise on Tuesday.
Hayden, a World Cup winner and one of Australia’s most dominant opening batters, brings vast international experience and expertise in modern T20 batting dynamics. His aggressive yet technically solid approach is expected to help shape the Titans’ batting identity and mentor emerging talent.
“Good batting applies pressure. Great batting owns the game. That’s the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans,” Hayden said in his first remarks after joining the team.
Vikram Solanki, GT’s Director of Cricket, highlighted the timing and importance of the appointment:
“Matthew’s appointment comes at a pivotal phase in our journey. His experience at the highest level, coupled with his ability to mentor emerging talent, will be instrumental in shaping our batting identity for the seasons ahead.”
During his career, Hayden played 273 international matches, amassing over 15,000 runs, and featured in 32 IPL matches, bringing first-hand knowledge of the league’s tempo and pressures. His focus will be on building a stronger batting framework for the Titans as they prepare for IPL 2026.
