Three police personnel lost their lives in a Maoist-triggered landmine blast on Thursday morning in Telangana’s Mulugu district, near the Chhattisgarh border.
The explosion occurred around 7:30 AM as security personnel were conducting a routine bomb detection operation in the forested region.
Authorities confirmed that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted in the area by suspected CPI (Maoist) operatives. The blast took place under the Wazeedu police station limits, marking the first fatal encounter between Telangana police and Maoist rebels this year.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and counter-insurgency operations following the attack. The incident comes just a day after Operation Sankalp, an anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, where forces neutralised 22 Maoists.
Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blast, while heightened security measures are being implemented across Maoist-affected regions. The Telangana Police, in coordination with central security agencies, aims to curb insurgent activities and prevent further attacks.
