India’s rising table tennis star Manush Shah has made an impressive mark at the WTT Contender event in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil.
On Friday, Shah secured his spot in both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles finals, while continuing his singles campaign with resilient performances.
In the men’s doubles, Shah partnered with Manav Thakkar to edge past Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yan-Cheng and Kuo Guan-Hong in a nail-biting 3-2 semifinal clash. The top-seeded duo earlier defeated strong pairs from France and Japan in the preceding rounds. They now face Germany’s Benedikt Duda and Dang Qiu in Saturday’s high-stakes final.
In mixed doubles, Shah teamed up with Diya Chitale to dominate the Chilean duo of Nicolas Burgos and Paulina Vega in straight sets, following a solid quarterfinal win. The Shah-Chitale pair is set to face Japan’s Satoshi Aida and Honoka Hashimoto in the final on Sunday.
Shah also remains a contender in men’s singles, having secured wins against Liao Cheng-Ting and Kim Taehyun. Alongside fellow Indians Harmeet Desai and Manika Batra, Shah continues to represent the country in the singles round of 16.
India’s presence at the WTT Contender Brazil has been buoyed by tactical brilliance and spirited performances, underscoring its emerging dominance in global table tennis.
