A tragic incident occurred at Dasharathpur’s Dhobabil village when a man was swept away in the gushing waters of the Kani river.
The victim, identified as Maheswar Sutar of Patana village, was reportedly answering nature’s call near the riverbank when the soil suddenly caved in, pulling him into the strong current.
Fire service teams rushed to the spot and began search operations, but no trace of the missing man has been found yet.
The breach in the Kani river, a branch of the Baitarani near Patana, has worsened the situation. Floodwaters have surged into villages, particularly in Tarapada and Kasapa panchayats, affecting more than eight villages.
In Dhobabil alone, over 30 families have been forced to take shelter on the river embankment, carrying children and livestock to safety. Local residents remain anxious as water levels continue to rise, threatening farmlands and homes.
