Padmapur witnessed a dramatic rescue when a man was found alive inside a deserted well four days after being allegedly assaulted and dumped by attackers.
The incident unfolded in Samalaipadar village under Bijepur, where locals discovered the man while collecting firewood.
According to police, five individuals assaulted the victim last Sunday around 3 pm and threw him into the abandoned well, assuming he had died. The man, identified as a resident of Purena village in Padmapur subdivision, had been reported missing.
On Thursday, a villager spotted him struggling inside the well and immediately alerted authorities. Fire service personnel and police rushed to the site and rescued him alive, ending his harrowing ordeal.
Police detained two suspects and began interrogation to uncover the motive and identify others involved.
Officials confirmed that the victim is receiving medical care and his condition is being monitored. Investigators are piecing together the sequence of events, including how he managed to survive without food or water for four days.
