Deogarh district witnessed a shocking crime when a man allegedly murdered his wife and attempted to destroy evidence by setting her body on fire.
The incident occurred in Mahlara Bahal village under Kundheigola police limits.
Police recovered the half-burnt body nearly 300 meters from the house. The deceased was identified as Laxmipriya Sahu, wife of Yashobanta Sahu. According to the victim’s brother, Murali Sahu, Yashobanta killed his wife following a domestic quarrel and then tried to burn the body in a nearby agricultural field.
Investigators revealed that the woman had suffered nearly 70 per cent burns. Her slippers were found at the crime scene, and police suspect petrol was used to ignite the fire.
Family members alleged that Yashobanta had a history of assaulting his wife during disputes. On Monday, the quarrel escalated fatally, leading to the murder.
Police detained Yashobanta and launched a detailed investigation. A scientific team also reached the spot to collect forensic evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
