A tragic road accident occurred near Padmapur College Square in Keonjhar today at 10 AM.
A 14-wheeler truck (OD-JIR-9-S-9620) rammed into a bike, killing the rider and severely injuring two pillion passengers.
While crossing the road near the market, the truck struck their bike, throwing them onto the road. Bidyadhar died instantly due to a head injury. Sabitri and Debananda were rushed to Dharanidhar Medical College via NH1033 ambulance.
Police officers Swarup Ranjan Nayak, Nihar Ranjan Raut, and Prabodh Chandra Mohanty reached the scene, seized the bike, and began investigation. The truck driver, who attempted to flee, was apprehended near Dhanurjaypur and taken into custody.
Sabitri is a student at Kusumita Girls’ Residential School. The incident has reignited public demand for an overbridge at the accident-prone junction. Locals expressed growing frustration over administrative inaction despite repeated appeals.
Police registered a case and handed over the body to the family after postmortem. Authorities managed traffic and calmed the crowd before tensions escalated.
