Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a person for allegedly duping a man of Rs 7 Lakh on the pretext of providing a job in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The arrestee has been identified as Niranjan Khatua of Chandrashekhar Prashad village in Dhenkanal district.
According to police sources, the victim, Sourav Ranjan Behera met with the accused at a gym where the accused introduced himself as a son of a police officer and also made him believe that he can help him to get a job in the police department.
Niranjan also showed some pictures with some police officers to gain Sourav’s trust. Sourav agreed to his proposal and initially gave Rs 1.5 lakh through an online payment app and later Rs 5 lakh through check.
When several months passed and Sourav did not get any job, he realised that he was fell prey to fraud. He repeatedly tried Nirajan’s cell phone number but did not get any response. With no option left, he lodged a complaint with the Balipatna police station.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case (171/21) under Sections 420, 506, and 34 of IPC and arrested the accused. Police said that the accused was at large after duping the victim and police nabbed him, launching a manhunt.
