The Special Judge (POCSO), Paralakhemundi, delivered judgment in TR Case No. 13/2024, arising from Paralakhemundi PS Case No. 58 dated 27 February 2024.
The court convicted Bamidi Balu @ Bala for kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl. He received 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for rape with a fine of Rs 10,000, and 3 years of RI for kidnapping with a fine of Rs 1,000. In default of payment, he will serve an additional six months and three months of RI, respectively. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation to the victim.
SI Panchanan Behera investigated the case under the supervision of Madhabananda Nayak, SDPO, Paralakhemundi. Special Public Prosecutor R. Janardan Rao represented the prosecution and secured the conviction.
Incident Details
The crime occurred when the victim was returning home from her coaching centre on a bicycle. The accused forcibly kidnapped her in his car, took her to a nearby temple, and committed sexual assault. He later abandoned her near the ORT garage. A local resident noticed her condition and informed her father, who rescued her and reported the matter to Paralakhemundi Police Station. Based on the complaint, police registered the case, conducted an investigation, and ensured a conviction.
