A person was sentenced to undergo a rigorous imprisonment of 10 years for raping a minor girl in Naktideul police station area in Sambalpur district.
The accused has been identified as Sumanta Behera.
The verdict in the 2013 rape case of a minor girl in the Naktideul police station area was pronounced on Thursday.
Special Court Judge Abhilash Senapati pronounced the verdict in the case and found the accused, Sumanta Behera, guilty. After recording a total of 11 testimonies, the accused, Sumanta, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. If the fine is not paid, he will have to serve an additional one year in jail.
According to the information, the victim had gone to attend a call of nature. Seeing her alone, the accused Sumanta forcibly picked her up. Later, he raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it. The accused fled when he saw another woman from the village coming towards the place.
The victim later informed the woman and her family about the incident. After registering a case at the Nakatideul police station, the police station officer conducted an investigation and arrested the accused.
The court recorded all the statements and pronounced the above verdict. The case was handled by public prosecutor PP Santosh Kumar Panda.
