A tragic incident occurred near the Kantabanji–Bangomunda railway crossing in Bolangir district, where a man died after being hit by the Puri–Durg Intercity train.

Locals spotted the body lying beside the tracks early this morning.

GRP ASI Maheshwar Pradhan identified the deceased as Indra Saraf (46) of Sunari Pada in Kukudahad village near Kantabanji. Police recovered the body and brought it to Kantabanji hospital for a post-mortem. Family members arrived soon after receiving the news.

According to police, Indra’s mental condition was unstable, and his family faced severe financial hardship. After the post-mortem, the body will be handed over to the family.

The incident has shocked residents of the area, highlighting growing concerns over safety near railway tracks in rural Odisha.
