A 32-year-old man died after alleged custodial torture at Kabisuryanagar police station in Odisha’s Ganjam district late Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Sushant Sahu of Subalaya village, was reportedly picked up by police in connection with a case.
Family members claimed that Sahu faced severe physical assault inside the police station. His health deteriorated rapidly after the alleged thrashing. He was first admitted to Aska Hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur when his condition worsened. Doctors declared him dead soon after.
The incident triggered outrage among locals, who accused police of custodial torture and demanded accountability. The family held the cops responsible for Sahu’s death.
Police sent the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway.
