A sudden bee attack injured five people and created panic in Khariar town’s busy College Square area on Sunday morning.
Hundreds of bees swarmed from a hive near a gym and rushed toward a roadside tea stall.
The shopkeeper quickly shut the shutter as the bees stormed inside. He and several customers remained trapped for nearly two hours, covering themselves with cloth to avoid stings. Outside, the buzzing swarm blocked traffic and frightened locals, who hesitated to intervene.
The shopkeeper managed to alert the Khariar Fire Service through his cellphone. Firefighters arrived promptly and used special techniques to drive the bees away. They safely rescued those trapped inside the shop.
Five people, including the tea seller, sustained multiple stings. They received immediate treatment at Khariar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors discharged them after their condition improved.
