Bhadrak: Bhadrak district court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 4 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for attempting to murder one Chintamani in the city, in the year 2015.
The convict has been identified as Prafulla Pal and has been slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 under relevant sections of the IPC.
Chief Judicial Magistrate of the court has also been directed to provide 6 months additional RI if the convict failed to pay the fine.
According to the case diary, in the year 2015, Prafulla had an altercation with the ward member-Chintamani who was supervising the work at the Rautarai Gadia Canal. In a fit of rage, Prafulla attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
Chintamani was initially admitted to Agarpada hospital and then to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and then shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital.
Following this, the family members of the injured person lodged a complaint with the Agarpada Police Station. On the basis of the FIR, police registered a case (15/15) under Sections 294, 323, 325, 307 of the IPC and arrested the accused.
