Odisha Vigilance arrested Malkangiri Junior Engineer Nihar Ranjan Sarkar and Koraput Forester Niranjan Satapathy for possessing disproportionate assets.
Both officials face serious charges under separate vigilance cases.
Officials searched Sarkar’s properties in Malkangiri and discovered a triple-storeyed palatial building, eight valuable plots, cash worth Rs.2.11 lakh, and a four-wheeler. He failed to provide satisfactory explanations for these assets. Vigilance registered Koraput PS case No.40/2025 against him and prepared to present him before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore.
In another case, Vigilance arrested Satapathy from Semiliguda Forest Range under the Koraput Forest Division. Searches revealed two multi-storeyed palatial buildings in Bhubaneswar, one in Koraput, seven high-value plots, gold weighing about one kilogram, deposits worth Rs.66.42 lakh, cash of Rs.9.28 lakh, and a four-wheeler. He could not justify the sources of these assets. Vigilance registered Bhubaneswar PS case No.31/2025 against him and prepared to present him before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
The Vigilance Department continues its investigation into both cases. Authorities confirmed that the arrests form part of a larger drive to curb corruption and ensure accountability among government officials.
