The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar have busted a major sex trafficking racket while investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl. The operation was carried out in the Laxmisagar area of the city on Saturday.
10 Survivors Rescued During the Raid
According to police reports, ten young women were rescued from a residential building used for the illegal operation.
The minor survivor, originally from Jharkhand, was allegedly trafficked and forced into prostitution at the same location. Multiple rooms in the house were reportedly being used as part of the trafficking network.
Two Detained, One Suspect on the Run
Police have detained two women for questioning, while a male suspect remains absconding. Efforts are underway to identify others involved and to uncover the full extent of the racket.
The house owner, however, has denied knowledge of any such activities on the premises.
Victims Trafficked From Other States
Preliminary investigations indicate that minor girls and young women from other Indian states were brought to Bhubaneswar and forced into the sex trade. Authorities are now working to trace the wider network behind the operation.
Case Origin and Investigation
The case began late Friday night, when a 17-year-old girl arrived at Capital Hospital in a semi-conscious and injured state. Medical staff grew suspicious of sexual assault and immediately informed the police.
A formal FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to determine the individuals responsible and ensure justice for the survivors.
