Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday decided to lift all Covid-19 restrictions across the state which will be effective from April 2.
The relaxation comes amid a steep decline in Covid-19 cases and revocation of the provisions of the Disaster Management Act by the Centre.
Maharashtra Health minister Rajesh Tope said the state is reporting 700-800 Covid cases, while the positivity rate is 4 per cent. The decision to withdraw all curbs was taken as per guidelines from the central government and consultation with the Covid task force.
“CM and cabinet decided that from April 2 (Gudi Padva), Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act will be withdrawn,” said Tope.
The Maharashtra government has decided to do away with the mandatory wearing of masks and double vaccination for people travelling on Mumbai local trains.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope added that just because compulsions have been withdrawn doesn’t mean that people should not use precautions.
“In order to prevent future Covid outbreaks, citizens need to wear masks, keep a safe distance and get vaccinated,” the Maharashtra government said in a statement.
