Maharashtra: In Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, at least 12 Maoists were killed, during a clash with the police. The operation, which lasted over six hours, also led to the seizure of several automatic weapons from the Maoists.
The encounter occurred in the forested area between Chhindbhatti and PV 82, near the border of District Kanker’s Bande Police Station, under the jurisdiction of Jharwandi PS in District Gadchiroli.
The firefight began in the afternoon and persisted sporadically until the late evening, resulting in the death of 12 Maoists. Among the deceased Maoists identified is DVCM Laxman Atram, also known as Vishal Atram, who was in charge of Tipagad Dalam.
Seven automatic weapons have been retrieved, including three AK47s, two INSAS rifles, one carbine, and one SLR and the process of identifying the Maoists along with searching the area is ongoing.
A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from C60 and one soldier sustained gunshot wounds but are reported to be out of danger and have been transported to Nagpur, as informed by Gadchiroli SP Neelotpal.
Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh for the C60 commando teams and the Gadchiroli Police, as stated by Nilotpal.
