The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Thailand region around September 20, which is expected to develop into a low‑pressure area by September 22.
Weather experts anticipate that the system will bring widespread rainfall across Odisha, particularly in southern and coastal districts. A low‑pressure area currently active over the north Bay of Bengal is already causing heavy showers across the state, likely to continue till September 12.
Between September 10 and 17, most parts of Odisha are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, ranging from 10–40 mm in different regions. The upcoming system around September 22 may intensify rainfall over southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh coasts, extending its impact to eastern and northeastern India.
IMD’s extended outlook suggests persistent wet conditions, with the possibility of strong winds and isolated heavy downpours during the latter half of the month.
