A well-marked low-pressure area over west Jharkhand and adjoining areas is expected to influence weather conditions across several states, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of central and eastern India over the next few days.
According to the IMD’s update based on observations at 5:30 am IST on September 2, 2026, the weather system that was earlier positioned over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand has moved to west Jharkhand and neighbourhood.
The system is likely to weaken into a low-pressure area during the next 12 hours and is expected to move west-northwestwards across south Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

The movement of the weather system is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across eastern and central India.
East Uttar Pradesh
East Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely on September 2. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected on September 3.
East Madhya Pradesh
East Madhya Pradesh is likely to see light to moderate rainfall at most places, accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall during September 2-4.
Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, on September 2.
Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely on September 3.
Odisha
Odisha is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places on September 2.
Jharkhand
Jharkhand is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at most places, while isolated heavy rainfall is expected on September 2.
Bihar
