The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the formation of a low pressure area over southwest Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, under the influence of an upper‑air cyclonic circulation.
The system developed at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.
Under its impact, extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places across north and west Odisha.

- Red Alert: Mayurbhanj district has been placed under red warning for extremely heavy rainfall.
- Orange Alert: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kataka, Sundaragada, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Subarnapur, Boudhagada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay updated with official advisories as the system intensifies.
