A tragic incident shook Balimela town in Malkangiri district when a college student allegedly ended her life after scoring low marks in her +2 Arts examination.
The deceased, identified as Suprava Patra, daughter of Srinivas Patra, reportedly hanged herself inside her home at Driver Line on Wednesday evening.
Family members rushed to rescue her and immediately took her to Balimela Health Centre. Doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Still, the family, believing she was alive, carried her to Korukonda Medical for advanced treatment. Doctors there confirmed her death again. Later, the family returned with the body to Balimela Health Centre.
ASI Satyamat Mandal seized the body, and police registered an unnatural death case at Orkel police station under section 7/26. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem on Thursday. Police officials, including IIC Dhiren Pattnayak, confirmed the investigation.
