The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) secretary A. Shankar and treasurer E. Jairam have resigned, citing moral responsibility for the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The incident occurred following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations, where mismanagement led to overcrowding and chaos. Despite their limited direct involvement, KSCA officials acknowledged their responsibility and submitted their resignation letters on June 6.
RCB has since announced compensation for the victims’ families and pledged support for those injured. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for an urgent probe into the matter, ensuring such mishaps do not recur.
The resignations reflect an attempt at accountability within sports administration, but questions remain about event management failures and future preventive measures.
